‘Atletico game our last opportunity to stay in Europe’ - Stefano Pioli

AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli believes their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid is “a great opportunity” if they want to stay in European competition this season.

AC Milan

will travel to Spain to face struggling

Atletico Madrid

in the Champions League at Wanda Metropolitano.

Diego Simeone

's men have just collected four points from their first four games, while the Rossoneri are sitting rock bottom of Group B with only one point from a possible 12.

They must defeat the LaLiga defending champions on Wednesday if they want to keep their chances of reaching the last 16 or securing a Europa League spot.

Despite all the odds against them,

Pioli

sees the game as a real opportunity to prove themselves.

"It's a great opportunity, perhaps our last to stay in this competition against strong opponents whose style of play we have studied carefully, and that we know well having played them a few weeks ago,"

he said on Tuesday

.

"We didn't need the ending [against Atleti] to know the qualities of our opponents, especially their great quality of staying in the game until the end. I think they're among the best in Europe to recover at the death.

"We must always play to believe until the 95th minute."

Rafael Leao

scored the opener in the 20th minute of their reverse fixture in September, but a goal from

Antoine Griezmann

and Luis Suarez’s controversial last-minute penalty turned things around for Roji Blancos.
