Messi opens up on having Sergio Ramos as a teammate

The Argentine icon admits it was “weird” to have Ramos as a teammate after so many years of rivalry.

Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi were both transferred to

PSG

as part of the French giants’ blockbuster transfer window in the summer. Ramos left Real Madrid after 16 years, while Messi ended his 21-year stay at Camp Nou.

As the captains of Real Madrid and Barcelona, the pair have faced each other in many El Clasico’s before, creating a unique rivalry that shaped the last decade of the Spanish top tier. Now Messi and Ramos are in the same team, forming a new relationship as teammates as they start a new chapter in their professional careers.

In a new interview with Marca, Messi has spoken about being a teammate with Ramos.

“Sergio Ramos as a teammate is spectacular,”

he said via

Diario AS

.

“Now it’s nothing, but at the start it was weird after so many years of rivalry, being the two captains of Barca and Madrid, after so many Clasicos played, so many fights that we had on the pitch.

“But all that stayed inside and we have always had a lot of respect for them being such big rivals in these Clasicos. To have him today as a teammate is spectacular.”

The pair might get the chance to play alongside each other for the first time as soon as this Wednesday. The Parisians will face

Manchester City

in a crucial Champions League battle as they aim to leapfrog the Citizens from top of the Group A table.
