Sevilla’s Kounde on disappointment after failed Chelsea transfer
The France international revealed that he was affected by his move to the Premier League being canceled.
The Blues’ interest in the
Sevillastar was the topic of many reports in the last transfer window as
Thomas Tuchel
looked to recruit.
However, Sevilla were able to retain Kounde’s services but the French defender revealed his disappointment in not being able to seal a move to the
Premier League.
Kounde told French broadcaster
Telefoot
:
"Did my failed transfer to Chelsea this summer affect me? Yes, a little bit, but now it's digested."
The Blues were one of the clubs keen on acquiring his services after his impressive display for Sevilla in the previous campaign.
The Frenchman had a crucial role in their fourth-place Liga finish, with Julen Lopetegui using his versatility.
After the transfer window was closed, the club manager revealed that the player’s valuation was not met, as Chelsea refused to pay his €80m (£68m/$95m) release clause, with the Spanish manager telling Diario de Sevilla:
"Kounde, in the end, has stayed because the club has decided that it was the right thing to do based on the evaluation of the offers they may have had."
