PSG's Leonardo hits out at Argentina for calling up injured Messi

The PSG sporting director is asking world football’s governing body to be involved in the long-running dispute over club versus country.

Paris Saint-Germain

slammed Argentina for selecting

Lionel Messi

for the World Cup qualifier clashes, with

Leonardo

insisting that naming the injured star was “not logical”.

The former Barcelona legend has been called up to be with his country before their battle against Brazil and Uruguay notwithstanding being out of action for PSG.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner is recovering from “knee and hamstring injuries” in his slow start to the Ligue 1 season, but he may be available for the Albiceleste as they are aiming to seal a place at Qatar 2022.

The Ligue 1 side sporting director is surprised by Argentina’s decision to call him up and is asking world football’s governing body to get involved in cases like Messi’s.

He told

Le Parisien

:

“We do not agree to let a player go by selection who, for us, is not in physical condition or who is in the rehabilitation phase.

“It is not logical, and these types of situations deserve a real agreement with FIFA.”

He featured only 45 minutes in the last match he played for PSG on October 29 when they went against Lille and has yet to find the target for his new side.

The Argentine talisman has always proved his commitment to his country, having earned 156 caps and is looking to help his side gain more trophies after their 2021 Copa America victory.
