Raheem Sterling

has attracted the attention of

recently as his contract with

Manchester City

is due to expire in 2023 and he has yet to reach an agreement over an extension.

The England international is looking for assurance in the squad before committing his future to the club.

The forward has been in and out of the squad a lot this season, and has been in the starting XI of only three games out of eight in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old has revealed that he is willing to take up a new challenge elsewhere.

If there was the option to go somewhere else for more game time, I would be open to it,"

he said at the FT Business of Sport US summit.

"As an English player all I know is the Premier League and I’ve always thought: ‘You know, maybe one day I’d love to play abroad and see how I would come up against that challenge.'

"I’m not a person that’s going to complain. I’ve not tried to make it a bigger deal than it actually is. I get on with my work, do what I need to do, and I’m just raring to go. [Ready to be] playing football matches regularly. Scoring goals regularly.

“If football for me is not at a certain standard I’m not really at my happiest. If I want my happiness at a certain level I need to be playing football. I need to be scoring goals. And enjoying myself.”

Barcelona are interested in Sterling’s services but according to Marca, they have to pay around £67m to acquire him, which may put him out of reach for the Blaugrana, who are struggling financially.
