The Inter star scored for his country in their World Cup qualifier against Uruguay.
Argentina defeated Uruguay with a 3-0 result on Sunday. Lionel Messi scored the opening goal for the Albiceleste in the 38th minute, with superb saves from Emiliano Martinez preventing Uruguay from scoring the equalizer. Rodrigo De Paul doubled Argentina’s lead before Lautaro Martinez put the third one behind Uruguay’s goalkeeper minutes after the hour mark.
In a post-match interview, Martinez spoke about his side’s performance.
“It was a good win,”
“Copa America has given us the strength to continue on our path: that of patience, play, of wanting to be protagonists.
“I believe we are demonstrating it on the pitch. Despite Uruguay being a strong opponent, I feel we played the game we wanted and secured the three points that allow us to make a difference in qualifying for the World Cup.
Martinez’s family was present in the stadium, watching another impressive performance from the Inter star who is enjoying incredible form this season.
“I’m happy because my family was present at the stadium, and this excited me. I thought of the sacrifices they made for me when I was younger, and they have always accompanied me in every stage of my life. I will always thank them.”
Martinez has scored five goals in his six league appearances for Inter this season as the Nerazzurri sit third in Serie A.
The Inter star and his Argentina teammates will face Peru in their next World Cup qualifier on Friday.
