In a post-match interview, Lionel Messi singled out the 29-year-old keeper for his impressive performance.
"He is fundamental for us,"
"When the pressure is on, he always responds. He did that again today. We know we have one of the best goalkeepers in the world and we are making the most of it.
"Uruguay had clear opportunities to score, even though we were in control. That's the sort of team they are. They are able to create danger out of nothing."
Argentina are now unbeaten in their last 26 games, including 10 matches in South America’s World Cup qualifying campaign. Messi and his teammates are on the verge of securing their place in the upcoming World Cup as they sit second in the tournament with 22 points from their 10 matches.
Asked about his side’s current form, Messi responded:
"I think we are improving a lot in terms of the way we are playing and the way we are keeping possession,"
"We knew the results of the other qualifiers and that we needed to take six points from our next two home games. The fans here are great and it is beautiful to play here."
Argentina will face Peru in their next World Cup qualifier on Thursday.
