Manchester City leading the race for Benfica’s Darwin Nunez

The Uruguayan striker has been linked with a move away from the Portuguese side in recent months.

Since his move from Almeria in September 2020,

Darwin Nunez

has established himself as a key player for Benfica. The 22-year-old has scored six goals in his seven appearances this season, further convincing his host of suitors from all over Europe.

According to

Daily Star

,

Bayern Munich

are interested in signing Nunez, but

Manchester City

are leading the race for the Uruguayan.

Liverpool

,

Manchester United

, and

Chelsea

are also interested in making bids, but they are considered to have lower chances of securing the signature of the former Penarol forward.

Man City have transferred Ederson and Ruben Dias from Benfica, two of their most successful deals in recent seasons. Nunez has a £125m release clause in his contract, but he is expected to be available for a much smaller sum.

Having pulled out of a deal for Harry Kane, the Citizens are playing without a senior number nine in their squad this season. Pep Guardiola’s side are keen to add the Benfica striker to their ranks on a £70m move, which would be way less than what they were offering for the England captain.

Manchester City, who are currently sixth in the Premier League, will face Liverpool in their crucial league game on Sunday.
