Julio Cesar: This Inter can reach the Champions League final

The former Nerazzurri goalkeeper says the Serie A champions have the quality to compete with Europe’s elite clubs.

Inter will face Shakhtar Donetsk in their next Champions League battle on Tuesday. The Nerazzurri started their European campaign with a 1-0 defeat against Real Madrid, but former goalkeeper Julio Cesar believes the Ukraine clash can act as a turning point for the Serie A champions.

Cesar was part of Inter’s treble-winning side in 2010. The Brazilian remembers how a match in Kyiv initiated Nerazzuri’s incredible campaign.

“Mou’s embrace and Sneijder’s scream,”

Cesar told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Kyiv is in our destiny, the Treble was born there.

“There was a turning point in Ukraine. This Inter can reach the final too, if the level is the one we saw against Real Madrid.”

Asked about Inter star Lautaro Martinez and his future at the club, the former Brazil international said:

“In Italy, he has everything to repeat himself,” he said. “He has talent and can grow.”

Inter are currently third in Serie A, having collected 14 points from their six matches of the campaign. Following the game against Shakhtar, the Italian giants will face Sassuolo in their next league match on Saturday.
