The decision on Haaland is only made by the management – Watzke

Sun 26 September 2021 | 13:16

Dortmund CEO rules out any financial problem that might force them to sell the club’s ace, Erling Haaland.

Erling Haaland

, regarded as one of the most talented strikers of his generation, has attracted the attention of European giants since joining

Borussia Dortmund

in 2020.

There have been some rumors in recent days suggesting that Dortmund have to sell Haaland since they have been listed on the stock exchange and may not be able to pay out to investors, however, the BVB’s CEO

Hans Joachim Watzke

, claims there is no pressure on the club to sell the 21-year-old striker and such rumors are just ‘bullsh*t!’.

"It has not yet been decided whether it will really leave in the summer,"

Watzke has told

Sport 1

.

"We'll just have a look. I heard someone say: 'They have to sell Haaland because they are listed on the stock exchange.' This is all bullsh*t. The decision whether someone is sold at our company is made by the management and only by the management."

Haaland’s release clause in his contract will be active next summer and with Europe’s biggest clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain lined-up to sign the Norwegian star, the chances of him staying put at Signal Iduna Park are slim, however, Watzke insists he trusts Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, to make the best decision for the young prodigy.

"The ball lies in Erling's court. I get on well with Mino Raiola because we can assess each other well.

"I know what makes him tick. It is not right to believe that Raiola is all about the money. He also has in mind what is best for Erling."
