Rudiger leaning toward free move to Real Madrid

The Chelsea defender is spending the last year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Since his move from Roma in 2017,

Antonio Rudiger

has gradually established himself as an important part of Chelsea’s backline. Following the arrival of his countryman Thomas Tuchel as the Blues’ boss last year, Rudiger has improved his performances further, becoming one of Chelsea’s leaders on the pitch. However, the German defender's time at Stamford Bridge might come to an end next summer, when the 28-year-old’s contract with Chelsea expires.

According to

Marca

, Rudiger wants to follow the footsteps of David Alaba, who joined the Blancos on a free transfer earlier this summer. Alaba’s former club Bayern Munich are also

interested

in a move for Rudiger as the German center-back continues to refuse the Blues’ contract renewal offers.

Rudiger reportedly wants €10m per year, but Chelsea are only willing to go as far as €6.5m. The Blancos, who saw Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane leave Santiago Bernabeu this summer, are keen to bolster their defense. Rudiger’s experience will benefit Carlo Ancelotti’s side, but securing his services would not be cheap for the Spanish giants.
