Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has questioned La Liga over his side’s packed schedule over the last week.
lost 3-0 toBayern Munich
in their opening Champions League group-stage game last week and have only won two of their opening five La Liga fixtures.
Back-to-back draws againstGranada
have left the Catalans slumped in seventh place in the La Liga table.
But despite Barca’s poor performances in these games,
has blamed La Liga’s fixture scheduling that had left the Catalan club playing twice in the same midweek.
He said after the Cadiz draw:
“What I don’t understand is how they put it in a schedule like this. They put us to play on Monday, this is what I don’t understand.
“I don’t know who does the schedule. How can it be like this? Why, after playing on Tuesday against Bayern have they put us on Monday?
“What happened with the referee (De Jong red card) can happen, you can be wrong. But this? It’s not a criticism, it’s a reflection. I don’t understand it.”
All teams are given around 72 hours of rest before their mid-week fixture, and the same break is applied before this weekend’s fixtures and Barcelona are no exception.
