Tuchel takes the blames for Saul’s performance
Thomas Tuchel says Saul had big mistakes but admits that he is responsible.
Saul
, who arrived from
Atletico Madrid
to Stamford Bridge just before the transfer window’s deadline, had his debut in
Chelsea’sPremier League clash against
Aston Villa
and was substituted in the half time, and the Blues boss
Thomas Tuchel
says that the Spanish has not been adapted yet and insists that he must take responsibility for the player’s poor performance because the German coach should have seen that Saul is not ready yet.
"I had the feeling that he struggled,"
Tuchel told Sky Sports
. "There were some big mistakes, passing mistakes, and he struggled with the intensity. You could see he isn’t fully adapted.
"It's completely my responsibility. I had the feeling he could jump in for us and play at that level. I [then] thought it was maybe better to change him, but it doesn’t change anything [about how I see him]."
The head coach later added:
"It's very hard. You can either do it or not do it. I told him before it was my responsibility if it does not work out for the matter of your life. He struggled a bit, created some half-chances for Aston Villa."
Despite his performance today, the player himself is so determined to show his quality and even perform better than what he has been able to show in the last two years as he claims that he has been frustrated with his situation.
"I want to go back to being the Saul that I want to see,"
he told Ibai Llanos on the streaming platform Twitch.
"I don't want to see the Saul that you've seen these last two years. I was very frustrated not being able to show people what I am capable of."
