Barca eager to sign Dani Olmo as part of Ilaix Moriba transfer deal

Tue 31 August 2021 | 10:01

Barcelona is believed to be keen on re-signing RB Leipzig and Spain midfielder Dani Olmo.

Olmo hasn't always received the credit he deserves as a backup striker who has been deployed in a variety of ways by different coaches.

Olmo, though, proved to be more than a headache throughout a front-line throughout

Euro 2020

and the

Olympics

That is most likely why Barcelona appears to complete a deal before the transfer window closes tonight.

Due to

Sergio Aguero

's injury, Barcelona believes they need some more wide players, forcing them to rely on

Martin Braithwaite

as the central figure, who alternates with

Memphis Depay

, who plays outside and has the freedom to wander.

Olmo may strengthen Barca's offense, and amid their financial difficulties, according to Telegraph correspondent Mike McGrath, they are negotiating a possible transfer.

The chance has arisen due to the Catalan's decision to sell

Ilaix Moriba

after he refused to sign a new contract.

The discussions have been going on for almost a week, and according to the source, Blaugrana see Leipzig's willingness to sign Ilaix as a chance to add Olmo to their front line.

The 23-year-old has been with Leipzig since early 2020, making 44

Bundesliga

 games and scoring eight goals.

After leaving Barcelona as a young prospect in 2014, he joined Dinamo Zagreb.
