Virgil Van Dijk has signed a new four-year deal with

Liverpool

to extend his stay at Anfield until 2025.

The Dutch defender is the last Red Star to commit to the club for a longer period of time. This 4-year contract that makes him one of the highest paid stars in Liverpool.

Van Dijk, who had less than two years left on his previous contract, has joined Trent Alexander Arnold, Alison Becker and Fabinho, who all extended their contracts earlier this summer. It is reported that the new contract for Mohamed Salah is Liverpool's next priority, and Anfield sources are confident that the Egyptian star will agree to a lucrative extension.

He told Club's website:

"All the hard work we've put in so far continues and I am looking forward to what the future brings together with Liverpool. I'm delighted, very happy and proud.

"Since day one when I joined the club, I felt so much appreciation from the fans and from my teammates and the staff, that I could be a very important member of this football club," said van Dijk, who has also won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup with Liverpool.

"It has been going well; unfortunately last season for me personally has been a season to forget, to learn from and take with me, but I have enjoyed my time here and will keep enjoying it in the next couple of years altogether with all of you."
