Serie A to follow the rule of five substitutions in the 2021-22 season

It has been confirmed that in the 2021-22 Serie A season, five substitutions will be permitted for each team.

When the Covid-19 hit in May 2020, this system emerged as matches brought fatigue due to the crammed schedule.

Many welcomed the system of the five substitutions that will continue into the next season.

This means that for competitions like the Coppa Italia that have extra time, a sixth substitution is permitted for each side.

This option is given until December 31, 2022 by IFAB to replace the three substitutions rule.

However, other leagues such as the Premier League have decided to stick with the traditional three substitutions for each match.
