The Red Devils legend believes the new signings will increase the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in their bid to win trophies.

Manchester United

are on the verge of completing a £73 million deal for Borussia Dortmund’s

Jadon Sancho

. The Red Devils will have the services of a new star at their disposal once the 21-year-old forward arrives at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney

believes the Sancho transfer will bolster the Red Devils squad but puts them under more pressure to win titles.

Following his Derby County side’s 2-1 defeat against Manchester United in a pre-season friendly, Rooney was asked by

Sky Sports

about the transfer of Jadon Sancho.

"He scores goals, creates goals, so I think it's a very good signing."

Rooney said.

"I think there will be a lot of pressure, which there should be with Manchester United.

"Sancho coming in, they are rumoured to be in for a few more players.

"They are in a period now where the fans will be wanting success, silverware, and Ole and his coaching staff will be under pressure to deliver that."

The Red Devils finished as runner-ups in both the Premier League and the Europa League last season. Solskjaer’s side are keen to further improve their squad ahead of the next season as they are determined to prevent their trophyless run from extending into the fifth year.

Rooney added:

"(Manchester) City, Chelsea the Champions League winners, Liverpool, there are some very good teams, but you can see with Manchester United they are getting gradually better.

"I think they will be in a place where they really will challenge next season."

Manchester United will start their 2021-22 campaign with a match against Leeds United on August 14.
