Tue 13 July 2021 | 7:27

The Dutch coach was on the verge of leaving the club last season, but he is now set to continue his job at Camp Nou.

Ronald Koeman

was heavily criticized for his side’s performances toward the end of the last season.

Barcelona

missed their chance to win La Liga as they finished third behind Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. The Dutch coach was linked with a move away from the Spanish giants, but the club seem to have changed their view on the experienced manager.

According to

Diario AS

, Barcelona are set to offer a contract extension to Koeman in October. The length of the new contract is yet to be clarified, but there have been speculations around a new two-year deal with the Dutchman. The club president Joan Laporta is reportedly keen to show belief in the coach by proposing a new contract.

Having won Copa Del Rey in his first season at Camp Nou, Koeman is expected to prepare his squad for the La Liga title next season. The club are dealing with serious financial issues, but they have already secured the signings of Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay, and Eric Garcia ahead of their next campaign. The Catalans are also looking forward to extending

Lionel Messi

’s contract. However, they have to reduce their wage bill significantly before signing a new deal.
