La Liga chief Tebas made himself clear on Messi’s situation

Fri 02 July 2021 | 12:06

Javier Tebas, the La Liga chief, has made himself clear on Lionel Messi’s situation before the big meeting with the Barca president today.

Joan Laporta

, the Blaugrana president, plans to travel to Madrid and have a meeting with

Javier Tebas

regarding

Lionel Messi

’s situation.

The Argentina international has hit free agency on Wednesday when his contract reached its end and

Barcelona

are keen on getting his signature for a two-year deal.

However, Barca can only reinvest 25% of the fees they get and with the six-time Ballon d’Or winner earning a huge salary each year, they have not made enough to reach an agreement over a deal.

Despite both parties wanting the same thing, they are stuck and Laporta hopes to make it work out by heading to the capital to meet the La Liga chief.

Though, he may be wasting his time should Tebas stick by his comments on Messi’s situation as he made himself clear when he said there will be no exceptions.

Barcelona have exceeded their wage cap,”

Tebas said in June, as cited by

Goal

.<em>

“I hope they can keep Messi, but to do so, they will have to make cuts elsewhere.

“We are not going to make Barcelona’s wage bill more flexible. The rules are not going to be changed. We are not going to change any rule for Messi.”
