Spain held to a 1-1 draw against Poland

La Roja went into their second game of Euro 2020 Group E hoping to grab all points but were held to a draw against Poland.

Spain

were held to a disappointing draw by Sweden in their first game of Euro 2020 and Sweden vanquished Slovakia 1-0 yesterday which saw them sit top of Group E table. To reach the Round of 16, tonight’s game was crucial for both parties.

Alvaro Morata

scored the opener for Spain in the 25th minute, which was first ruled out as an offside but after a VAR check, the goal has been given. The Spain international helped La Roja take the lead in the first half of the game they were dominating by 77 percent.

Luis Enrique’s side had a chance to double their advantage before half-time.

Poland

, on the other hand, had multiple opportunities to score an equalizer during the first half but failed. The Eagles went into the second half pressing high up the field and were able to level the game courtesy of

Robert Lewandowski

’s superb header. Poland have finally got more out of their talisman striker.

Right after the Bayern Munich striker’s equalizer, Poland’s Jakub Piotr Moder committed a foul on Gerard Moreno which saw Spain gifted with a penalty. However, the Villarreal striker did not meet the target as he hit the post.

The 21-year-old Ferran Torres, who was substituted in during the second half to replace Dani Olmo, had a chance to score Spain’s second goal but it was headed wide of the near post, 10 yards out.

Morata and Rodri also had several chances to find the target for Spain during the final minutes of the game, but were miserably undone.

A draw has put Spain in desperate need of a draw or a victory over Slovakia in their next match, or they would not make it to the knockout stage.

Lewandowski’s goal has helped Poland stay in the tournament.
