The Egyptian FA wants to make one last push to take the 29-year-old to the summer games.

Mohamed Salah

and

Mohamed Elneny

are included in

Egypt

’s provisional squad for the Tokyo Olympics.

Liverpool

are yet to decide whether they will let their forward join his country’s U23 team. The English side are unlikely to agree with the Egyptian FA’s request as Salah would miss a large part of the Reds' pre-season campaign.

The Egyptian FA chief

Ahmed Megahed

told

ONTime Sports

: "

His position isn't clear yet, we will try one last time with Liverpool to let him participate.

"Mohamed wants to be in the Olympics, and we are working to make it happen."

The Egypt Olympic coach

Shawki Gharib

spoke about his decision to call up Salah in an interview with Egyptian radio station

On Sport FM

in April.

"I need to use the benefit of choosing three players over the age of 23, and we have a player considered to be among the best three in the world, so I have to consider him,"

said the Egypt U23s head coach.

"Salah is a big star and all the players want him around."

The Tokyo Olympics will officially begin on July 23. However, the football competition is set to start a day earlier and will run until August 7. The new Premier League season will kick off on August 14, meaning Salah would only have one week to prepare for his side’s first league match.
