The Mannschaft center-back says his side must be ready for “one-one-one challenges” against the reigning world champions.

Germany

will play against

France

in their Euro 2020 opener on Tuesday.

Joachim Low

’s side have struggled for form recently and many observers don’t consider them among the favorites to win the continental trophy. The Mannschaft have also been handed a tough draw for the tournament, with the Germans set to face France,

Portugal

, and

Hungary

in the ‘Group of Death’. Ahead of his side’s crucial battle against Les Bleus,

Antonio Rudiger

admits they must play it tough against

Kylian Mbappe

and Co.

"Of course, they have good forwards, we have to be ready to win the one-on-one challenges."

Rudiger told reporters.

"We have to be a little dirty, not always be nice or try to play nice football.

"Against players like them, you have to throw down a marker."

Low is expected to employ a three-man defensive unit against France, with the Chelsea defender set to play alongside

Mats Hummels

and

Matthias Ginter

in the backline. Rudiger has been forced to wear a protective mask since his injury in

Chelsea

’s match against

Real Madrid

on April 27.

Asked about the mask, the 28-year-old responded:

"It’s still there for protection,.

"I’ll have to see what the Chelsea doctors say when I get back to London."

After their match against France, Germany will face Portugal and Hungary in their next Group F matches on June 19 and 23.
