announced on Instagram that they are going to part company with
at the end of the season when he is out of contract.
The 33-year-old also in an Instagram post said that he is very disappointed that he was not offered a new deal by the club.
"Unfortunately, after this season, my journey with VfB will have to come to an end. I've spent three very emotional years here with sporting highlights and painful defeats. As an athlete, you grow from your challenges when you meet resistance and decide not to give up. That's exactly what I and we as a team set out to do after the relegation season, and we succeeded in impressively confirming this after getting promoted," Castro stated.
"I would have been very happy to help shape this hopeful path in the future and continue to lead the boys onto the pitch. But the club has decided on a different path, which I respect and yet am very disappointed that the club did not make an offer.
"I have had an incredible amount of fun representing this team and club as captain!
Thank you to the team and fans for your support!"
