Huntelaar returned to Schalke to help the club avoid relegation

Huntelaar returned to the club with a short-term contract where he scored more than 120 goals in 7 years of presence.

Klaas- Jan Huntelaar

returns to

Schalke

for again to help the club fight relegation from

Bundesliga

.

He has scored 126 goals in his 240 appearances for Schalke from 2010 to 2017, and now he joined the club from

Ajax

on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Schalke are bottom of Bundesliga with just 7 points from 16 games.

Koln

are five points in the playoff, while

Arminia Bielefeld

are two points ahead in safety.

“We need to win games and score goals to climb up the table,”

Huntelaar told the club’s official website.

“I want to play my part in the club staying up. Schalke belongs in the Bundesliga and it’s our responsibility to make sure that we stay here.”

The 37-year-old will be linked with his former team-mate

Saad Kolasinac

, who returned to the club on loan from

Arsenal

in early January.

Schalke fans will undoubtedly hope that the “hunter” could strengthen the team and make an immediate impact in the Bundesliga.  He is the club’s top scorer and holds the title of Schalke’s top scorer in UEFA competitions.

Those glorious days now seem far away for those at the club, as Schalke are in grave danger of relegation to Ligue2. For the first time since 1988.
