Ivan Klasnic takes £3.6million in compensation

Ivan Klasnic has received €4million (£3.6million) in compensation after successfully suing ex-club Werder Bremen over the kidney failure he had undergone in 2007.

Klasnic

, who would spend three years at Bolton between 2009 and 2012, had earlier been given a sum of £90,000 at the Bremen Regional Court but decided to take the issue to the Higher Regional Court to continue his case against ex-club doctors Gotz Dimanski and Manja Guha.

Lawyer Matthias Teichner acted on behalf of

Klasnic

, claimed high doses of painkilling medication prescribed by the pair had massively damaged

Klasnic'

s kidney.

The 40-year-old was qualified for a financial package that would take into account his loss of earnings, suffering, and health limitations that would remain with him for his life.

Klasnic

, who avoided filing criminal charges against the doctors, refused to speak following the insurance payout, but Teichner confirmed the conclusion of the case would provide the Croat the justice he deserves.

"No money in the world can make up for the considerable and permanent damage to my client's health [but this is] more suitable to create a feeling of justice.

"At least the doctors were now ready to express their regret about the incidents. In my opinion, this was long overdue."
