'I didn't care' Asensio was never interested in Messi transfer saga

Real Madrid midfielder expressed his indifference toward Lionel Messi's potential transfer but also said that he prefers to play "against the best".


t the end of the 2019-20 season one of the most interesting transfers sagas of the last decade started by Lionel Messi expressing his wish to Leave Barcelona. Six-time Ballon d'Or winner was linked to multiple clubs including Manchester City and PSG but at the end decided to stay at Camp-Nou for at least another season. Many footballers reacted to this huge news but most of the Real Madrid players remained silent about the topic. In his recent interview with El Transistor, Real Madrid midfielder Marc Asensio has spoken about this transfer saga.

“I didn't care if Messi left or stayed. That he stayed will be better for Barcelona; I like playing against the best."

When asked about his current place in Los Blancos squad, The Spaniard responded:

“Of course I would like to be in the starting XI and play, but that is up to the coach,

“I feel just as good, if not better, than before the injury. 

“I have always felt a lot of pressure, I understand that people expect a lot from me and what I want is to justify that faith with titles for Real Madrid.”
