Tuchel Declares the Truth: The Pains of Defeat
The painful loss and controversial decisions in the semi-final tragedy
Thomas Tuchel, the technical director of Bayern Munich, expressed his extreme anger after his team’s exit from the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
Bayern Munich suffered a horrifying defeat against Real Madrid with a score of (2-1) in the second leg of the semi-final that was held on Wednesday evening at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, after the Bavarian team was leading by a goal.
Tuchel expressed in his statements after the match to the DAZN network the extent of the pain the team feels and the difficulty of recovering from this loss, indicating at the same time that they did their utmost on the pitch.
He added: “It is natural that it is difficult to accept this loss, but we do not feel regret, and despite the presence of many injuries, changes and muscle problems, we gave everything we have in this match”.
In other statements to the beIN Sport channel, Tuchel expressed his deep disappointment and anger due to the referee’s final decision that led to Real Madrid’s winning goal, indicating that the referee did not sufficiently verify the correctness of the player’s offside position, which made the decision seem unjustified.
Tuchel continued: “When you are in front of Real Madrid, you must be vigilant until the last moment, you cannot be content with advancing in the last minutes of the match, and what happened today was strange, the mistake made by the legendary goalkeeper (Neuer) was unexpected, but despite that, they were able to score the winning goal in the last moments”.
Tuchel concluded his speech by saying: “But the decision made by the referee was disastrous, such a mistake cannot happen in a match of this size, there is no justification for it, the assistant referee apologized for the mistake he made, but the mistake was clear, and it cannot be justified, the flag should not be raised without verifying the correctness of the decision, and the referee must be aware of the importance of opportunities in these matches, I cannot accept this decision”.
