Ronaldo and Al-Bulaihi: A Clash at the Pinnacle of Sportsmanship

Analysis and dimensions of the decision of the Discipline and Ethics Committee in the incident of the Portuguese’s expulsion and its impacts on the paths of the two teams

The vision of the Discipline and Ethics Committee in the Saudi Football Federation was embodied in relation to the issue of the expulsion of the Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, the captain of Al-Nassr club, during his team’s match with Al-Hilal club, in a step aimed at preserving the ethics of play and the spirit of sport.

In the match that brought together Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr, which ended with Al-Hilal’s victory with a score of (2-1), last Monday in Abu Dhabi, in the semi-finals of the Super Cup, the 86th minute witnessed the referee Mohammed Al-Hawish showing a red card in the face of Cristiano, due to his involvement in a brawl with Ali Al-Bulaihi, Al-Hilal’s defender.

Based on a report published by the Saudi newspaper “Al-Riyadiyah”, it seems that the Discipline Committee is heading towards imposing a penalty on Ronaldo that includes suspending him from participating in two matches and fining him an amount of 20,000 riyals, in return for his inappropriate behavior during the expulsion he was subjected to in the face of Al-Hilal in the semi-finals of the Saudi Super Cup.

It is worth mentioning that this penalty comes as a second penalty faced by the Portuguese star with Al-Nassr club, as the Discipline Committee had previously punished him by suspending him from one match in all official matches that he is entitled to participate in, after his unethical behavior towards the fans of Al-Shabab team during the winning match (3-2) in the 21st round of the Saudi Roshn League.
