Odegaard on Rodri's horror tackle: "I’d get banned if I say anything"

Arsenal's captain suffered a 3-0 defeat with his country against Spain in a Euro 2024 qualifier on Saturday. However, the Norwegian side believes they should have been awarded a penalty after Rodri's reckless challenge.

Martin Odegaard was lucky to escape an ankle injury when Manchester City's midfielder Rodri made a reckless challenge on the Arsenal star in the penalty box. Although La Roja achieved a 3-0 victory, the Norwegian believes the referee could have done better.

Odegaard told

TV2

: “

I’m pretty sure I should have had a penalty. He’s coming with his studs right on my ankle. But I’m sure I’ll get punished [if I say any more]. I don’t bother saying anything else about the referee. It’s better not to say anything.”

Norway boss Stale Solbakken added:

“It is a clear penalty! He finishes the shot and you can’t [foul him after]. If I knock someone down after the ball is gone, then it’s a penalty. I get a little bored of this. What I see here now [on the replay] is exactly what I saw from the bench. There was a bit of arrogance going on. That’s the way it is, but it’s unbelievable.”

Norway will next face Georgia on Tuesday.
