Dier blames Tottenham players for the last minute Southampton draw

admitted that Tottenham were responsible for their own downfall as they let a late lead slip against Southampton and were held to a 3-3 draw. Spurs were leading 3-1 with just over 10 minutes remaining, but Southampton managed to score two late goals to snatch a point.

James Ward-Prowse converted a stoppage-time penalty to secure the draw after Pape Sarr was adjudged to have fouled Ainsley Maitland-Niles. Despite Antonio Conte being unhappy with the decision, Dier accepted that the match should have already been won by Tottenham at that stage.

"

We only have ourselves to blame,"

the Spurs defender told Premier League Productions.

"Sloppy mistakes. We lost possession easily and didn't have control of the game at 3-1 when we should have. 

"We conceded really poor goals and should not let them back into the game. They lost both their centre-backs [to injury] and we should have caused them a lot more problems."

Tottenham's draw against Southampton on Saturday has put them at a disadvantage in the race to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League, with Manchester United and Newcastle United having the upper hand.

Tottenham are currently one point behind Manchester United, who have played two fewer games than them, and two points ahead of Newcastle, who have two games in hand.

"There will be lots of ups and downs for everybody fighting for top four and relegation,"

added Dier.

"It will definitely go down to the last couple of weeks of the season, and we need to find some consistency."
