Louis Saha claims Manchester United would have avoided Liverpool thrashing with Ronaldo

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha believes Cristiano Ronaldo could have helped them against Liverpool.

Manchester United

conceded seven goals at Anfield to suffer their joint-worst-ever defeat against their rivals

Liverpool

on Sunday.

Cristiano Ronaldo

left Man United by mutual consent in November and joined Saudi side Al-Nassr on a free transfer. Manchester United won the Carabao Cup last week and has just lost two games in all competitions since Ronaldo’s departure, but Louis Saha believes Ronaldo could have helped them to avoid their humiliating defeat.

Speaking to Compare.bet, Saha said:

"Ronaldo’s departure marked a fresh start for United, and it gave ten Hag a blank page to draw upon, which has allowed him to establish a winning mentality at the club.

"Now that the club’s mindset has improved, I think they’d be doing even better if they had Cristiano up top. Of course, it’s hard to know for sure, but when I see United losing 7-0 to Liverpool, I can only think that Cristiano could have helped.”

Manchester United will face Real Betis in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie on Thursday. They are also in third place in the Premier League, 14 points behind leaders Arsenal with one game in hand.

Ronaldo’s team will face Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League on Thursday. He has scored 8 goals in 7 matches for his new team.
