Lewandowski’s 3-match ban upheld after all as he misses important Atletico clash

Robert Lewandowski’s three-match ban following his red card against Osasuna before the World Cup will be upheld after all, as Barcelona’s appeal wasn’t accepted.

Robert Lewandowski was banned for 3 matches after he was seen making a gesture towards the referee because of a red card he received against Osasuna.

Barcelona appealed the ban but Spain’s Sports Administrative Court has chosen to uphold the ban, which makes Barcelona without their key player against Atletico in this weekend’s important LaLiga clash.

This means

Lewandowski

won’t be able to make a La Liga appearance until the end of January. But he is eligible to play in Barcelona’s last-16 draw in Copa del Rey as well as their Supercopa match against Betis which is after the Atletico clash.

Barcelona

barely edged out third-tier Intercity last night with a 4-3 result and Blaugrana boss Xavi spoke to the press afterwards about Lewandowski’s potential ban, saying:

"Lewandowski's absence on Sunday is a setback and it is unexpected. We have no choice but to now obey it as we did when they told us he couldn't play against Espanyol."
