Martinez returns to Aston Villa training after Qatar 2022 heroics

The Aston Villa goalkeeper won the 2022 World Cup's Golden Glove as he helped Argentina win the trophy. However, his post-match celebrations attracted a lot of criticism as he mocked Kylian Mbappe.

The Argentina goalkeeper taunted

Kylian Mbappe

twice in the celebrations after the final. First, a viral video showed he asked for a minute's silence for Mbappe in the changing room after the game. He also was pictured with a doll with Mbappe’s face stuck on it during an open-top bus parade in Buenos Aires.

Head coach

Unai Emery

promised to attend Martinez's manner of celebration last week. He said:

"When you have big emotions, sometimes it's difficult to control. I will speak with him next week about some celebrations."

After a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool, Villa will next face

Tottenham

in the Premier League on Sunday.
