Coutinho set to push for a January move to Corinthians from Villa

Despite being an initial hit under Villa's previous manager, Steven Gerrard, the 30-year-old failed to perform as expected as he's eager to push for a move to his homeland.

After his horrendous spell at Barcelona,

Philippe Coutinho

joined Aston Villa initially on loan as he impressed during the spell, convincing the Premier League club to make his stay permanent, signing a four-year deal with the club. However, the Brazilian only managed six Premier League starts so far this season without contributing a goal or assist.

Now, According to

Goal

, the former Liverpool midfielder wants to leave Villa in order to return to his homeland, Brazil. Corinthians is eager to sign the Brazilian but his high salary makes the deal difficult for the Serie A side. The playmaker likely heads Brazil on loan with both clubs paying a part of his salary.

Joining

Barcelona

from Liverpool in an eye-catching £146m transfer, Coutinho failed to live up to expectations at Barcelona as he headed Bayern Munich on loan before eventually landing on Aston Villa for a £17m fee.
