Spain U-21 boss De la Fuente appointed as new La Roja head coach

Thereupon their disappointing exit from the World Cup, the Royal Football Federation has announced the departure of manager Luis Enrique. In less than an hour, De la Fuente was appointed as Enrique's replacement.

Though Spain was strongly regarded as one of the greatest teams in the 2022 World Cup, La Furia Roja surprisingly lost their match to Morocco on penalty shoot-outs. Unfortunately, the disappointing result cost the Sapin coach, Enrique, his job as according to RFEF, the federation decided not to renew his contract, even though they previously offered him a new one.

Now, the Royal Spanish Football Federation announces

Luis de la Fuente

as Enrique's replacement. He won the 2015 European Championship with Spain under-19 and repeated the triumph in 2019. He also led the Spanish Olympic team to the silver medal in Tokyo.

Despite RFEF stating Spain need a ‘new project’, de la Fuente is closer to Luis Enrique in style, rather than other candidates like Marcelino Garcia Toral.

Luis de la Fuente will be introduced on Monday, December 12 at 12:30 p.m. in the Luis Aragonés room of the Ciudad del Fútbol.
