Aguero tips Messi to add World Cup to Argentina's Copa America triumph

After clinching his first major international title last year at Copa America, the former Argentina striker Aguero believes Lionel Messi is in great form to deliver his country the long-awaiting World Cup.

Lionel Messi

led Argentina to qualification from their group after a slow start to the tournament as he led his side to a 2-1 victory over Australia on Saturday. Sergio Aguero believes Messi's developed bond with

Argentina

's supporters will boost their hopes to win the World Cup this year.

"

Leo is going to do everything possible to achieve the goal that we all want,"

the former Argentina international told

ESPN

"Leo is happy and content. The Copa America changed his life, it gave him life. After Copa America, he was happy again in the national team, like when we were in the under-20s.

"He lived with criticism and lost finals for a long time. The Copa America was liberating for him."

On their Copa America victory over

Brazil

last year and a potential rematch this year, Aguero added:

"If we made it to the quarter-finals, let me be excited. Do you think that Brazil wants to meet Argentina in the semi-finals?

"Brazil has just lost the Copa America final, I think they don't want that match."
