Netherlands 2-0 Qatar: Netherlands Qualifies as the Group Winners

Netherlands and Qatar faced each other in their final group match in two complete different phases. While the Netherlands needed a positive result against the host who had lost both of their previous game and had already been eliminated.

Netherlands and Ecuador led the group with four points with Senegal chasing them with three points as the AFCON champions faced Ecuador in the more important match of the group. Meanwhile, the Oranje needed three points to proceed as the group winners while the host wanted to run away from a 100% losing streak in the first World Cup of their history.

As expected, Louis van Gaal's side dominated the first half as they eventually scored the opener through Cody Gakpo who brilliantly finished Klaassen's assist. Frenkie de Jong doubled the game for the Dutchmen early in the second half scoring on a rebound from a shot by Depay as the Netherlands secured their place as the group winners. Qatar failed to trouble the European giants for the rest of the game as they held on to their 2-0 lead, proceeding to the knockout stage of the World Cup as the group winners.
