FIFA investigates Ecuador fans' homophobic chants at World Cup
FIFA has launched disciplinary proceedings over chants by Ecuador fans during their World Cup opener against hosts Qatar.
FIFA confirmed on Wednesday that they have opened disciplinary proceedings against Ecuador over homophobic chanting by their fans in their World Cup match against
Qatar.

World Cup.Some of their fans reportedly sang a homophobic chant against Chileans.
Chile complained that Ecuador fielded an ineligible player, Byron Castillo, during the qualifiers and asked FIFA to let them take Ecuador’s place at the World Cup.
Ecuador was fined and received a points deduction for the next World Cup qualifiers but FIFA allowed them to play in the World Cup. Ecuador also decided not to include Byron Castillo in their squad for the World Cup.
"The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against the Ecuadorian Football Association due to chants by Ecuadorian supporters during the Qatar v Ecuador FIFA World Cup match played on 20 November,"
a statement read.
"The proceedings were opened on the basis of article 13 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.”
Ecuador is in Group A with Qatar, Netherlands, and Senegal. Netherlands and Ecuador both won their first games and will face each other on Friday.
