Graham Potter blames Chelsea's form for Raheem Sterling's goal-drought
After a 1-0 derby defeat to Arsenal, Chelsea is now on a run of four games without a win in the Premier League as the English winger has failed to score since August. However, the Chelsea boss is confident the striker will overcome obstacles.
After turning the club's form around,
Chelsea's
4-1 thumping by Brighton and Hove Albion in their last week league game shows that they are still finding their feet under Potter's management. A home defeat to their local rivals
Arsenalgot matters worse for the Blues as they are now four games without a win. Meanwhile, Chelsea's summer signing from Man City,
Raheem Sterling, has failed to register a league goal since August.
However,
Graham Potteris confident of the English winger’s quality. He told
the club’s official websiteahead of the EFL tie with City:
“Players go through moments in their careers where it isn’t so positive and sometimes they have moments where everything they touch is gold. I don’t think you can zoom into the individual.
"The team isn’t functioning as well as I would like and that has an impact on individuals. Raheem is an individual in the team so the work for us is to try and improve the team’s structure. I have no doubt about Raheem’s quality and ability. He’s a proven top player."
Despite his poor form, Sterling was selected in
Gareth Southgate
's squad for this Winter's World Cup.
