‘We need to send a message’ -Joshua Kimmich

Having already been qualified for the Round of 16 of the Champions League in the so-called Group of Death, Joshua Kimmich feels that Bayern must send a message in the last match of the group stage against Inter

Bayern and Germany’s midfielder, Joshua Kimmich feels that it is imperative for Bayern to “send a message” against Inter Milan in this week’s clash in the Champions League.

Both teams have qualified to the next stage last week when Inter beat Viktoria Plzen 4-0 and Bayern Munich themselves dispatched Barcelona 3-0 at Nou Camp so send them down to the Europa League but Kimmich feels that their job is not finished.

"The coach has addressed it already,"

Kimmich told reporters during Bayern’s press conference ahead of the match.

"We need to send a message to ourselves and our opponents. We want to play freely and have fun out on the pitch, like we have [been doing] lately. We want to win the game in order to send a message."

Despite a rough start to the season, Bayern have been unbeaten in their 9 matches across all competitions recently, winning 8 and only drawing once. However, Kimmich believes that their mettle will only be tested after the World Cup.

"In February, March and April, it will be decided who the favourites are," he said. "We are proud that we won our group, a very difficult group. It's remarkable that we topped it before the final matchday."

Bayern’s coach, Nagelsmann, also mentioned the possibility of a partial rotation of his squad against Inter in what is to be one of their last 4 matches before the World Cup.

"We will rotate. How many changes we make depends on how things go today and tomorrow. We won't take any risks, after all, the last few weeks have been very intense."

The fitness state of Manuel Neuer was also questioned to which Nagelsmann replied:

"We're hoping Manu will return this weekend. had no issues during and after training today. We will need to wait and see."
