Oliver Kahn: "We have nothing to give away in Barcelona"

On Wednesday, Bayern Munich could continue to tease Barcelona in the Champions League like they did in prior seasons.

Bayern Munich

CEO

Oliver Kahn

has stated that his squad would not be giving anything away to finish first in Group C of the

Champions League

. Bayern have already qualified for the round of 16, so their trip to Camp Nou on Wednesday could result in a humiliating early departure for Barca.

The Blaugrana are on the verge of becoming the second team in Champions League history to be eliminated in consecutive group stages after failing to beat Inter in two matches earlier this month (also in 1997-98 and 1998-99).

Last year, Bayern eliminated

Xavi

's team from European contention with a 3-0 victory at the Allianz Arena. According to Kahn, Bayern will be highly determined to repeat this feat this season.

"We have nothing to give away in Barcelona. We want to achieve our goal and finish first in the group,"

Kahn told reporters on Tuesday.

"It is the strongest group, someone had to pay; Bayern, Inter or Barcelona. It's not over yet. We have the utmost respect for Barcelona. The performances they show in the league are strong, they're outstanding. It is always a very important match between two great teams in Europe."

"If you look at FC Bayern and the results in the Champions League in recent years, it's a success story, no question. [We've] always qualified for at least the round of 16,"

Kahn said

With

Robert Lewandowski

's acrimonious departure to Camp Nou in July, Bayern will be even more motivated to extend their winning streak over Barca in the Champions League to six games

. "I don't know what Robert thinks about it – you'll have to ask him yourself."

And Kahn reported that goalkeeper

Manuel Neuer

is getting closer to making his return from a shoulder injury layoff.

"With him, you just have to wait and see how things develop from day to day," former keeper Kahn added. "It's a painful story, but I don't think it's anything that serious. I think he should be ready again soon."
