Belgium must win a major cup to justify 'Golden Generation' - Hazard

Eden Hazard believes that Belgium must win a major trophy if they are to live up to the title of "Golden Generation" which has been applied to them for a decade.

Great players are currently playing for Belgium, including Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois, Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku. Also, in the last 7 years, the Red Devils were at the top of the FIFA ranking in 5 years, but they had problems in big tournaments. In the last two Euros, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals, and in the 2014 World Cup, they also withdrew from the competition at the same stage. However, in the 2018 World Cup, they were able to advance to the semi-finals and win the bronze medal. Now Hazard claimed that if they want to be worthy of the title of "Golden Generation", they need to win a major trophy.

He said:

"There's always talk of the 'Golden Generation' but there's some truth to it.

"We've spent almost 10 years together. Now we've got young players starting to come through.

"We've got an incredible generation of players, but we still haven't won anything. If we really want to earn that 'Golden Generation' nickname, that's the one thing we need to do.

"Our collective experience has definitely helped us in previous tournaments, so I hope that it will continue in the same vein for some time yet."

Hazard who scored 3 goals in Russia, wants to improve his record in Qatar. He added: 

"I have to set the bar high. I'm going to try to do better than in 2018. 

"It'll be tough because that was already pretty good. I'm fortunate to be the captain of a great team and a big footballing nation. We owe it to ourselves to have high expectations."
