Barcelona 4-0 Bilbao; Dembele registers hat-trick on Valverde's return

Barcelona cruised past Athletic Bilbao with four goals in LaLiga on Sunday to keep the pressure on Real Madrid.

Dembele, Roberto, Lewandowski, and Torres all were on the scoresheet for Barcelona on a night that Ernesto Valverde returned to Camp Nou.

Barcelona

opened the scoring in the 12th minute through Dembele. The Frenchman scored with a header from Lewandowski’s cross.

Just six minutes later Sergio Roberto scored the second goal of the home side. Roberto played a one-two with Dembele. He received the return ball inside the box and blasted a shot across the face of the goal, which took a deflection and went into the goal.

Lewandowski

scored the third goal in the 22nd minute. Dembele glides past the left-back and passed the ball to Lewandowski in the center. He turned De Marcus with ease and stroked the ball home with his left foot.

Xavi was forced to replace Gavi after he suffered a groin injury in the 34th minute.

Pedri could score at the start of the second half but his strike hits the post. Ferran Torres scored Barcelona’s fourth goal in the 73rd minute. Dembele dribbled forward and played a beautiful through ball behind the defense. Torres raced onto it and slotted the ball beyond the hands of the goalkeeper.

Barcelona is in second place with 28 points after 11 matches. There are three points behind their rivals Real Madrid. Xavi's side will host Bayern Munich in an important match in the Champions League on Wednesday.

If Barcelona fails to beat the German side or Inter beat Victoria Plzen they will be eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage for the second year in a row.
