Atalanta’s Zapata subjected to racism at the bank

Another racist incident took place that worries Italian Sport and it is the one where Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata was blocked by security as he wanted to enter his bank, while media put the blame on the Colombian’s ‘outfit’.

As per reports from the

Gazzetta dello Sport

and

Corriere di Bergamo

newspapers,

Duvan Zapata

wanted to enter the Fideuram building in Bergamo, a private banking institution, where he intended to meet his financial advisor. When he wanted to enter at the door, the security staff stopped him as they claimed his ‘outfit’ of jogging bottoms and hoodie put them off. They also described the situation as ‘suspicious air”. They told the Atalanta player that “this is not the place for you.”

Duvan Zapata, however, tried to stay calm and proved who he is to the security before one of the staff members came to rescue him and revealed that he is a regular client at the bank. The security is said to have been freelance and not regulars there.

This comes a week after another incident in Italy that involved volleyball star Paola Egonu, who was threatened to leave the Azzurri squad after being attacked on social media, saying that she was ‘not even Italian’.
