Man United icon Michael Carrick starts coaching career with Middlesbrough
After sacking Chris Wilder, the former Manchester United midfielder emerged as a suitable candidate to take the charge of the Championship club. England boss Gareth Southgate, who is close to Boro owner Steve Gibson, is said to have offered Carrick to the club.
Sitting in the 22nd place in the Championship Table,
Middlesbroughsacked Chris after a fifth defeat in 11 league games and elimination from the Carabao Cup defeat to Barnsley.
According to
Sky Sports, the Championship club is close to agreeing on terms with the former Man United midfielder and interim boss, Michael Carrick, to take the reign as the head coach of the club.
Both parties are also finalizing terms with his backroom staff as the appointment is expected to be announced before the weekend. Carrick is likely to make his debut in Boro's Saturday clash with Huddersfield before an away
EFL Championshipgame against Wigan Athletic on Wednesday.
The former
Manchester Unitedmidfielder, who won 5 Premier League titles during his 12-year tenure in this team, worked as an assistant to Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was in charge of the Red Devils as
interim manager
until the appointment of Ralf Rangnick.
After the dismissal of Wilder, Leo Prokovic took charge of the team on an interim basis, and Craig Liddle, Mark Tinkler, and Lee Cattermole were his assistants during this time. During this period, Boro managed to beat Birmingham, but lost against Milvar and Blackburn.
