Howe hits back at Klopp’s criticisms on Newcastle’s spending

The Newcastle manager warned the Liverpool boss after Jurgen Klopp slammed Magpies’ spending power.

Eddie Howe

has backed Newcastle United when Jurgen Klopp criticized Manchester City and the Magpies’ spending power. The German tactician supported Dan Ashworth’s assessment regarding Newcastle not having a “ceiling” in spending, unlike Liverpool and the Magpies’ boss has spoken about the critical comments.

"Our wage bill is very controlled. We’re trying to do things in a very stable and controlled way. Although we have spent money on players, it has not been extravagant or out of sync with the rest of the Premier League. Everyone has to be careful with their comments and opinions,"

he said.

"Yes, the ambition is huge in the long term, but in the short term, we are trying to improve everything we deliver for our players and we are still working towards that. We are a long, long way from where we want to be.”

In 2021, Newcastle was taken over with £300m and since then, they have been investing in the transfer market and brought in Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes, and Alexander Isak.

Six of the clashes Newcastle have had resulted in draws. This is their second time to have drawn these many games in their first 10 matches in the Premier League. Both managers’ sides will be in action on Wednesday, with Newcastle locking horns with Everton, while Liverpool go against West Ham United.
