Graham Potter on Zakaria situation: "He's ready to help the team"

Graham Potter claims Denis Zakaria still has a role to play for Chelsea even though he hasn't played since joining on loan from Juventus.

Chelsea

manager

Graham Potter

has denied suggestions that Denis Zakaria's loan stay could be terminated in January. Former head coach Thomas Tuchel signed

Denis Zakaria

on a season-long loan from Juventus just before the transfer window closed at the beginning of September.

The midfielder hasn't played in the Premier League for Chelsea yet, and he's only been a sub once. Potter is unaware that the

Switzerland

international could be on his way back to

Juventus

when the next transfer window opens.

"There's no decision been made at all on that. Denis has been in the group, he's been training well. He's ready to help the team, obviously there's competition for places in that area, but there's no talk of anything. He's an important member of the team, he's been patient and he's trying to help the team from the side at the moment and waiting for his chance.",

he said.

Chelsea will make the short trip to Brentford on Wednesday in pursuit of a sixth consecutive victory and a fifth consecutive clean sheet. Head coach Potter's stint has started off well, with his team currently fourth in the Premier League and on track to qualify for the Champions League round of 16.

Mason Mount's double gave Aston Villa a 2-0 win on Sunday, and Potter is perplexed as to why there appear to be mixed feelings about the England midfielder's talents.

He said:

"It's a joy [to work with Mount], he's a fantastic person. He loves to play football, loves the club here. It's surprising I get some questions like there's some sort of mixed opinion on Mason, I find that strange."

"Especially from the outside and then when you start to work with him, you just think he's got everything you need to be a top, top player. He's got a great attitude, understands spaces, connects, can execute, assists, scores goals. He's a top player."

Chelsea have no fresh injuries to worry about ahead of their match against the Bees, according to Potter, allaying fears that Thiago Silva will be out with a hamstring problem.
