Brentford condemned racist abuse against Ivan Toney

In recent weeks, the issue of racism has once again become the headlines of the press and the news related to it has increased.

The Brentford club has condemned racist abuse against striker Ivan Toney and asked the police to investigate the matter.

Toney scored twice in Brentford's win over Brighton to take his Premier League tally to eight and boost his World Cup chances. However, after the win, Toney posted a screenshot of a user's message to him on Instagram that made a racial slur. The Brentford attacker published the content of the sender's message and account on Twitter and wrote:

"I wasn't even going to post this, but I woke up angry."

The Brentford club also reacted to this issue and supported the English striker. Club's statement reads:

"We condemn this discriminatory behaviour in the strongest possible terms. An attack on one of our players is an attack on all of us.

"Ivan will receive the full backing from the club and from the Brentford fans who we have already seen condemning the abuse.

"We expect strong support from the police, legal authorities and from Instagram's parent company, Meta, to ensure that the individual involved faces the full force of the law for this despicable hate crime."
