Klopp is amazed by Pickford's “unbelievable saves” after Everton draw

The Everton goalkeeper was named man of the match for making 8 saves during the Reds' frustration at Goodison Park with the match ending as a goalless draw, with Klopp hailing both the “intensity” of the Merseyside derby and both of the goalkeepers.

Everton

goalkeeper

Jordan Pickford

denied chances from Salah, Nunez, and

Roberto Firmino

to keep one point for his side against their rivals in a spectacular derby that ended 0-0, with the Reds hitting the crossbar three times.

Jurgen Klopp

told his post-match interview with

BT Sport

: "

It was a real derby, super intense and with a lot of really spectacular moments."

"This game was not bad, at all, it was just a tough one,"

he said.

"I don't forget that they had a big chance. The goal was offside so I don't count that, but it was close, but when Ali made a save [from Maupay] that was proper. Apart from that, we had bigger chances but it's okay now."

In the 69th minute, the Toffees had a goal ruled out by VAR as the Reds academy graduate

Conor Coady

tapped in

Neal Maupay

’s cross-shot. He went wild in front of Goodison Park before his goal was ruled out for offside. The

German

coach said about the incident:

“I didn't see it back but I think if they watch it long enough it probably was offside.

Liverpool

had lots of chances denied by

Jordan Pickford

as he displayed a master performance against the Reds, denying an excellent finish from

Mohamed Salah

in the stoppage time leading the ball to hit the crossbar as he did against

Darwin Nunez

in the first half.

After hailing a "sensational save" from

Alisson

, the German praised the

England

goalkeeper Pickford:

"We hit the post three times, and a few unbelievable saves by Pickford. Wow. What can you do.

"You have to dig in really deep, that's what we did. In the end it's nil-nil, which sounds strange, but that's it."

Everton's goalless draw remarked the first time in 2022 Reds failed to score in a

Premier League

game since their 1-0 defeat at

Leicester

in December, an outstanding 25-game run.

"

It's been a super intense week for us,"

Klopp

said.

"On Wednesday night we had a really tough game and had to go to the wire, and a few days later you play here.

"I don't know how many derbies I've played now, quite a few, but it's always difficult and it was difficult today."

Liverpool will next face

Napoli

on Wednesday in their Champions League opening game of the season.
