Isak misses Newcastle’s trip to Wolves as work permit has not arrived

By signing Alexander Isak, Newcastle United showed that they mean business, but the striker will not play his first game against Wolves.

For Sunday's game against

Wolves

,

Newcastle United

was without club-record signing

Alexander Isak

and key player

Bruno Guimaraes

.

Isak moved from Real Sociedad to Newcastle on Friday for £59 million (€70 million). But the striker can't play for Eddie Howe's team against Wolves because he hasn't gotten his work permit yet. This means he will have to wait to make his Premier League debut.

Howe chose

Chris Wood

to lead the line instead of Callum Wilson, who is out with a hamstring injury. Wood scored twice for Newcastle last season after joining from Burnley in January.

Guimaraes, an influential midfielder, is also out for Newcastle because he got hurt in the EFL Cup game against Tranmere Rovers on Wednesday. Guimaraes didn't join the game until the 85th minute of that 2-1 win.
